Day Trip To The Horse’s Lighthouse In Santoña
Dear neighbors,
It was true! Today, as the weather forecast had informed, it has been a beautiful, sunny day. The first after 20 nonstop days of rain. To be honest, having to face that kind of weather for so many subsequent days, was starting to get on our nerves; it’s been rough and depressing.
In the morning we woke up to a blazing sun, which got us out of bed in the blink of an eye. The amount of choices for plans to be done was endless. We ended up deciding to go on a trip to the Horse’s lighthouse.
We took the E70/A8 to go from Bilbao to Santoña and drove for about 35 minutes, in a kind of relaxed motion and alongside with low traffic. Once we got there we parked our car and started hiking all the way up and down the steepy hills, through and inside the comfort and shelter of the forest and all the way down the 763 steps staircase, which led us to the tiny beacon.
Once we got to the watch tower, I must admit I was rather disappointed with its state. It was covered by ugly, dirty and malicious graffiti. I declare myself a firm lover of street art, but what I saw there can plainly be considered as vandalism.
The views were utterly picturesque and unspoiled, and listening to the sound of the pounding of waves against the high rocky walls, as the sun bathed my freckles, hair and smile, was just the ticket.
Bilbo loved it! And I loved watching him rolling over the wet autumn 🍂 leaves. The way back was a bit demanding, but extremely healthy.
To end the trip we pampered and indulged ourselves, enjoying a beautiful menu of the day back at the town’s square, as the sun kept shining and we listened to some jazz music.
If you ever get the chance, you should most definitely give it a try!
Best,
M
